The End - relax....................

This was much easier to accomplish this time having two weeks for each. Thanks Tosca.

Very interesting yet again to gain all this knowledge. I really don't think that we would be doing this off our own back's. We need to be organised! ha ha

Thanks Tosca for all your hard work!

Week 6 EnCompass - wow wow wow

Looovvvve this site - had already discovered this site previously.
I have saved as a favourite. I will recommend this site to customers.

I did check on which books we had as I looked them up - it was about half and half, so pretty good going.

It was user friendly and divided up in useful ways in order to get good results.

Week 5 Slideshare

Slideshare - mmmmmmmm - wasn't sure about this one - some of the presentations we were looking at were actually now quite old and with the constant change in technologies am wondering how useful this site would be for customers.

I can however see it's use for assignments when studying for library papers! haha

I know how long it takes to put these sorts of things together - some were very long and to be honest without the presentation effect they sort of fall a bit flat.

However saying this they were still interesting and I may refer to the site on occasions in the future.

Again, knowledge is wonderful and you would always keep these sorts of site tucked away, just in case a customer has a particular enquiry.

Week 4 - Tastespotting

What a great little website with beautiful clear photos. I viewed this a couple of weeks ago and now got round to looking again.

I chose the Lemon pudding recipe as this was one I was looking for one sunday a few weeks back.

I will definitely recommend this to friends and customers if appropriate. I search for receipes all the time, but have to admit that I love the friendly comments and great photos!

Week 3 Feed my Inbox

Always love to have a play - ha ha

This was interesting and can see the applications. A really good use would be for job seekers wanting to get information on particular jobs. I know there are other ways to do this too via the jobs sites but still a good idea to have this particular one.

Week 2 PicApp

New Zealand, Auckland, Sky tower illuminated at night, low angle view

This was an interesting exercise. It was tricky looking for something within PicApp, so decided on New Zealand. Logically I first tried to insert image and paste into URL, but this did not work, so tried the other way and lo and behold an image appeared.

Any free image site is great to know about and usually these images are not copyright and are clear and crisp if you wish to print etc.

Again, knowledge is power - it's like a book, some books are great for some things, and not for others, same with these types of site - great for some uses. So again, it would depend on what the customer is wanting.

Week 1 Box - online filing system - save the trees

Welcome to Week 1 of Round 2 -

Joined to Box and created an account. This could be a very useful sharing tool. I could see it's uses within business who have remote sites spread around with no shared network. I am not sure which customers I would recommend to as yet, but knowledge is power, of course. I was'nt surprised that on my personal login, I was blocked from uploading, so had to whip out to the learn.nets to complete. I was surprised that it all worked with no hassle and it was very simple to follow the instructions. It was fun finding some images and used to the above to convey how I feel this morning. Need that coffee............

Facebook fun! Week 6

Facebook is very interesting. I am using this to keep in touch with my family oversees. The pictures of my daughter's wedding were uploaded the very next day for those that couldn't attend to share without waiting for us to send hard copies.

It was interesting visiting other libraries facebook pages - looked at Aucklands and you have to opportunity of keeping up with what's happening around the city and what's good with reading.

Sorry forgot to say that, yes I would promote this to customers. Often you see advertising for events etc in to the library and then just totally forget they are on. This would be a good communication tool.

Well into organising school holiday programme and trying to visit every local kindy at present - so keeping myself out of mischief.

Week 5 Music Files

The Music File sites are very interesting. It is apparent that you can get free downloads. All the sites appear to be user friendly. I know of another called I lounge too. You tube is also very user friendly when searching for music.
As for customers using unsupervised, I feel sure that most people are up to speed with searching although the odd more senior person may need a little help, however, we have not had such a request yet.
However, I believe what most people would be interested in is getting and paying for the more popular music eg the latest gaga who reminds me very much of the picture I have put in this week and that would mean paying. I would like to see libraries have some sort of way that we could access and pay and then charge the customer and maybe make a slight profit. Probably not possible as I am sure this has already been explored. Still technology is changing as we speak.

Week 4 - Good Reads

What a week - celebrating New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards - wearing pajamas and gum boots on Wednesday night - yee haw - running round the library to the Gumboot song!

Friday night and wanted to blog before the week is done - An interesting site which I can see will be useful to find good reading!! Sometimes I am stuck finding a new author and again this site will be useful.

I can see the possibilities of an extension of our bookclub, sharing information about books.

However, this will be in a world where we have the time to do this. Maybe................... um.

Really though, I think all these website are fantastic to know about, it adds another string to our bow!!

Tosca - if you read this at the weekend - hope you are enjoying a lovely coffee or a glass of the red stuff!!

Week 2 Twittering or trying to whistle!

Found this one a bit confusing - instructions on what to do not clear. However I did mange to be put on as a Birdie! but haven't managed to get back to try to tweet again - run out of time today, yet again.

Will revisit this this week to make sure I know what I am doing.....................

Week 2 Zamzarrring!

Fun and games this week with Zamzarring.

How many times have I needed this in the past. Our computer at home is Microsoft works so this is definitely a handy tool for me to use.

However, I did this at the learn.net the first time and decided to do a publisher doc and then convert. This was not successful and it took a long time (more than half and hour) for anything to come back and then it was unusable.

However, I then took a wps doc and converted to a word on my work computer and this then only took five mintues.

This will therefore be a useful tool to know about but would not raise customers hopes too soon when helping just in case!!

Week One - Bloggity blogger

Just when you think it's over, it's time to renew one's skills. This has got the old brain working well = what was my password, did I write i down? No, but I remembered it, so not losing too much grey matter yet!

I do like to keep up with as much as I can. Although I am picky, time is precious and I really don't want to be everyones 'friend', so apologies if I don't accept you on facebook when you ask me.

Using blogging as part of my work = yes this will appeal to some and it is our job to give good customer service whether it be recommending a book, showing someone the learn.net, or relaying information though a blog.

So, what would our customers expect - well it depends on the customer - if it's someone interested in movies, then blog about the latest DVD's, if its a 10 year old then blog about the latest book craze, eg Percy Jackson's cool... a teen may want the latest new about graphic novels.

Blogging is just another form of communication and it can be fun.
If you look carefully at image - there is a tiny bungy jumper - no, it's not me, but that's how I feel sometimes!!
