e books - Gutenburg

A very interesting site where you can access e books - the top 100 wwas very interesting with a wide range of titles and very interesting to see that the classic titles were in this list along with some other obscure like the illustrated History of furniture??

Of course I looked for the children's titles - and Grimms were in the top 100. Looked for Roald Dahl but unfortunately not listed.

This site must be a godsend for Housebound, sight impaired etc - they are adding titles all the time and you can download them in several ways, onto CD/DVDs, you can even proof read a page every day for them to help!!

You can also access an offline catalog if you have problems.

Podcasts

Followed the exercise and have added two RSS feeds to my bloglines:

Crazy Daves Kids show which feature all sorts of kids activities

and Booklounge where you can enjoy candid interviews with your favourite authors, or discover your next great read. Featuring books from Doubleday Canada, Knopf Canada, Random House Canada, McClelland and Stewart and more!

Youtube

SweetnSour won the world hip hop dance championships this year in LA beating the worlds best!!

Web 2.0 awards

Very interesting - I actually found that I had already visited a few of these sites via other ways - the troubleshooting one we had used at home to try and sort out some technical issues with tuning something in.

I really liked the www.last.fm which gives lots of music choices and if you search for a group that you like it will give similar - very useful

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/ looked so good but would let us access - you can get latest BBC programmes - I wanted to have a look at Antiques homeshow but no luck

www.hairmixer.com - great for us girls who want to have a change of hairstyle - you can change hair with a picture of yourself before you venture into the hairdresser!!

Using this in the library setting - well could be useful to capture latest book titles or or web developments.

Google docs exercise - Zoho blocked

I think this might be one of Kelly's images saved onto the computer here - very cute and she is obviously crazy about cats too!!

Zoho writer blocked today so using google docs to do this exercise - pretty straightforward so far but let's just see if I can upload to my blog!!

Dedicated Training morning

This is great just to be able to concentrate - we have our casual slaves to do all our work for us!! A very good idea - thanks to Mariette! and muffins at morning tea too!

Have just revised Week 7 Social Networking - have actually logged back into facebook and found connections to heaps of new friends!!! - Very cool!

My daughter put a naughty picture up from our holiday - ha ha Claire very amusing. I still like Robin!

Social Networking Week 7

I did have a good idea of what all these sites were, but played around on Myspace looking up different genres of music and playing bits of songs - very enjoyable!!

Very exciting checking out the Hennepin Library site - you can sign up for bookclubs, they also have Saturday morning storytimes..mmmmmm....

Bebo was blocked for me even though I paid but checked ou the connection which was very interested - lots and lots of info.

I have signed up to Facebook and asked my daughter to be my friend..aaaahhhhh
This of course may be the only time we can catch up. I have actually been using her facebook login in to see what my son has been up to on his travels and seen lots of photos which he may not have necessarily been for mum's yes!! but good to see he is having a good time overseas.

This is a great site now that globetrotting is so popular.

Web 2.0 and libraries and of course librarians!!

Technology is changing so fast and in the case of libraries by the time we get hold of new technology it is soon old technology!!

However, I believe that there will be new librarians with a whole new set of specific specialist skills required. e.g. at present we have childrens, reference, library assistants - and yes we all have to multiskill, but I believe that there will need to be a specialist librarian in every branch who will share information as does the childrens, teens, and reference at present. I hope this makes sense.

Technology could be used by publishers, etc. to share their sites more freely when searching for books and share the information more easily.

Teaching methods in schools will also change dramatically and it may be that libraries will need to align with their changes.

I do know one thing though, New Zealand needs faster internet speed!

A very inspiring article!

Technorati and Del.icio.us

Goodness gracious me - this was mind boggling - read some interesting postings and it is a very interesting mindblowing theory regarding this bookmarking. Will it all get into one big mess eventually?? My logic is telling me yes, but I expect there will be some other technological advance that will sort it out!!!

I decided to do a search for hip hop and many wonderful and interesting articles appeared - interviews, newspapers articles. If I was to do this seriously, I would probably want to have the tag of the specific artist e.g. Kanye West

I must admit I thought Delicious was something totally different, so have learnt something new - I have to admit that I thought it was a type of facebooking, but now I know differently - of course doughnuts are delicious too!!

From a cat lover

After reading other peoples blogs, this part of the exercise is a bit daunting.

Talking about yourself doesn't come easy!! Finding that exciting something to talk about is the most challenging part of this exercise!

I love my cats so that may give others a clue as to who I am.

I am going to post a picture of my cat when she was a kitten, she was gorgeous then, of course all kittens are, but she has turned into the lovliest cat with such a good kind nature.
